about

"Red Material" is based on processed poems written by Sylvia Plath (1932 - 1963), each sound track is based on a processed reading of a poem (read by Jelena Glazova). This album is a collection of non-verbal translations of Sylvia Plath's poems.
The title "Red Material" is a quote from a poem "An Appearance". Red colour plays significant role in Plath's body of work in general.

Artist's Statement: "I was always dissatisfied with the translations of Plath's poems into my native language, I used to compare those translations with the original poems and between themselves, trying to find imperfections. I finally decided to make my own, non-verbal translation of Plath's poetry.

Sylvia Plath has been a very important author for me for a period of 8 years, ever since I discovered her work. I was inspired by her and aknowledge being influenced by her in my poetry. I would like to have an illusion of finishing this "relationship" with Red Material album."

All material realized October 2012 - December 2012 in Riga and Mooste, EE.

"Red Material" is also an audiovisual installation containing sound tracks and video works, realized in December 2012 at LMA: www.jelena-glazova.com/artworks/red-material/
